ERP is a holistic solution that addresses every facet of a company. For that very reason, it can come with a lot of mystery, and many people have preconceived notions about what ERP is and how it works in business. Many of these ideas are complete myths and prevent businesses from accessing this comprehensive and valuable solution. If you are considering implementing ERP at your company but some ideas about ERP are holding you back, debunking those popular ERP myths may well help you decide to go with this important business innovation.

It’s too risky.

Security is essential in the digital age, that’s a fact. Whether it’s your data security or your customer’s security must be a top priority. Historically, businesses new to the cloud have had some anxiety about the risks of data that is stored in the cloud. Today’s cloud-based solutions, however, have advanced security protocols in place, making them as safe and even safer than many on-premises solutions.

My company is in a very specific space and ERP can’t fit our needs.

Again, not true. Vendors have designed many ERP solutions these days, with specific niches in mind. They come with modules and feature sets they tailored to the demands of certain industries, including manufacturing, retail, and more. Also, given the modular structure of ERP, along with the hybrid design schemes possible, it is easy to create a solution that adheres to any company’s specific demands. When you consult with an ERP specialist, let them know the specific needs of your company and your space; chances are their solution can more than meet those needs.

I can’t afford it.

ERP is a scalable solution. You can start smaller and grow from there. As mentioned above, you can also customize ERP to your needs so that you are only getting features that bring serious value add to your business. Finally, the flexible pricing models associated with many modern ERP solutions means that any business can find an ERP that fits their budget and their user base so that you only pay for what you need.

It’s too advanced for my company.

If you feel you need a deep bench of IT professionals in house to make ERP work for you, that is simply not true. Many ERP management tasks happen off premises. When you work with the right ERP consultant, you get a solution that works for you without having to do the heavy lifting during implementation or with ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
